Why Write?

As a child, I used to lie in bed at my aunt & uncle's cottage listening to the haunting call of the loon.  We'd see them out in the lake during the day, but it was in the evening when I loved them most.  As an adult, these memories remind me to make time to take in the simple moments & enjoy the beauty of life.

I could leave it at that and keep it poetic, but the word "loon" has other meanings for me.  I often feel a bit "looney" as I juggle the curve balls life throws my way.  As a full-time educator, my job demands a lot from me during the school year.  Outside of the classroom, I volunteer with youth, help out & my local church, bartend & curl at the local curling club, participate in pole fitness, and spend time with friends/family.  Life is never dull, and I'm always looking for ways to be a better juggler!

I started this blog to connect with readers, & other writers alike, who seek something a bit more "real".  The world focuses a lot on image, money, and the accumulation of "stuff".  The media focuses on celebrity failures, more often than successes, and with "real-life" dramas promoting almost impossible realities, I wonder if we haven't lost sight of what's important and realistic.

What you won't find:
- celebrity gossip
- discussions about expensive clothes, jewelry, or cars
- fan-fiction
- pursuit of materialistic happiness
- political or religious discussion

What you will find:
- a journey to being happy & healthy (perhaps, a struggle like your own?)
- DIY adventures
- "real" life

Happy Reading,

The Loon
